Hey Chick Watercolor Cards

Don't you just love this funky chicken!?  I've had a lot of fun playing with this stamp.  One of the things I love about the Watercolor Pencils is that I can color my images any color I want and they coordinate with our other Stampin' Up! products!  And how about that "chicken wire" background?  I'll tell you how I did that a little later in this post!


Focal point -- I started by cutting the Whisper White squares and Basic Gray scallop squares using the Layering Squares Framelits dies.  The chicken image was stamped at various angels using Archival Basic Gray ink. 


Next, I used the Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie Watercolor Pencils and a Blender Pen to color the "hair" and tail feathers.  I also colored the beak in Pumpkin Pie.  These images are popped up using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Background -- To get the look of chicken wire in the background, I used the new Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Only I didn't emboss it, I used it as a stamp!  I inked up the raised side of the folder with Archival Basic Gray ink and placed my Whisper White card stock on it and simply applied pressure to get a "stamped" image.  How cool is that?


The new Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder is like the Cable Knit one from the Holiday Catalog.  It embosses a very deep, almost 3-D, impression in the card stock.


Sentiment -- The sentiment is stamped in Archival Basic Gray onto a 1/4" x 2 1/2" strip of Smoky Slate and fish-tailed at the end.  The sentiment is also popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches -- I added two pieces of the Urban Underground Designer Washi Tape at the bottom of the card.  These coordinate perfectly with the color pallet I chose for this card.  The card base is Basic Gray with a Delightful Dijon mat.


I also made a second version of this card.  I completely changed the color pallet on this one!


This time I used the Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay Watercolor Pencils on the chicken.  I added some Bermuda Bay Thick Baker's Twine tied in a bow. 


The sentiment was again stamped in Archival Basic Gray, but this time on Melon Mambo card stock.

Complete Supplies List—"Clear" means a rubber stamp on a clear block. "Photopolymer" is see-thru.

Today's sneak peek features the Beautiful You stamp set with cards made by Angie.  I just LOVE these!

Beautiful You White Watercolor Cards

 If you love to color, you're going to LOVE the new Watercolor Pencils!  Not only can you color with them as a dry pencil, you can use an AquaPainter or Blender Pen to dissolve the color and blend it smoothly and effortlessly!  Best of all, these colors perfectly MATCH our Stampin' Up! exclusive colors, so everything coordinates...as it should!






Focal Point— Angie started by stamping the dancing Beautiful You girl onto a 4" x 3-1/4" piece of Crumb Cake with Archival Black Ink.  She stamped her off to the right side to have plenty of room to stamp one of the lovely Beautiful You sentiments next to her.  She also added a water image from the new High Tide stamp set along the bottom, making her look like she is dancing on the shore!    








Next, she lightly sponged some Soft Suede ink around the edges of the stamped layer for some depth.  
















Watercolor Accents—Angie colored her hat with the Bermuda Bay Watercolor Pencil, adding a little heavier color to the left side.  Then, she blended the color with an Aqua Painter to soften up the pencil strokes.  Super easy!  Her dress is colored with the White Watercolor Pencil.  I love how the white adds a soft, opaque look!  Just color in the whole dress with the pencil and smooth out the marks with the Aqua Painter.




Finishing Touches—Angie added a strip of Very Vanilla 1/2" Lace Trim to the edge of a 4-5/8" x 3-3/8" layer of Bermuda Bay card stock, securing the ends on the back with a full strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive down the side.  The texture of the lace requires a little extra sticky to keep it in place.  I also wrapped some Linen Thread around that layer and tied it into a bow.

The Bermuda Bay layer is adhered to the Soft Suede card base with SNAIL and the watercolored layer is popped up with Dimensionals over the top.
Of course, this wouldn't be complete without a second "Too Cool" version from Angie!



Two Cool—For the second, vertical version, she used a Rich Razzleberry background and highlighted the umbrella girl image and a different sentiment from the Beautiful You set.


This one is colored with the Melon Mambo Watercolor Pencil on the umbrella and shoes.  Angie thought it was a nice "bright" color to go with the phrase she selected.

My Holiday Card Stamp-a-Stack series continues for the final month of December with the Star of Light stamp set!  Let me help you create your holiday cards a little at a time without all the last-minute stress!
Star of Light Class Kit—Our fourth class is on Sunday, December 11, or by Class-To-Go Kit, and it will feature the beautiful Star of Light (photopolymer) stamp set.  We'll create 12 cards—6 each of 2 designs!  I love the gorgeous star images in this stamp set, and when you add the optional Starlight Thinlits, the combinations are simply stunning!  There are also lots of lovely phrases that are beautiful sentiments for the season that work perfectly with the Christmas star!  
You'll create 6 each of the following card designs:

November Holiday Card Stamp-a-Stack: Hang Your Stocking

Let me start by telling you that the pictures of these cards DO NOT do them justice!  They are so beautiful and sparkly, but that was really hard to capture in the photos :(.

Hang Your Stocking Class Kit—Our third class is on Sunday, November 13, or by Class-To-Go Kit, and it will feature the adorable Hang Your Stocking (photopolymer) stamp set.  We'll create 12 cards—6 each of 2 designs!  There is so much versatility with this stamp set, especially when you add the optional Christmas Stocking Thinlits!  Between the fun designs on the stamped images, the gorgeous, intricately cut stocking overlays, and all the little décor pieces...there are limitless possibilities to mix & match until your creative heart's content!

Let's take a closer look at the cards ... 



The first card features a trio of die-cut stockings hanging from a "mantel".  The brick wall in the background is the perfect touch!  The colors are Dapper Denim, Mint Macaron and Bermuda Bay.   


I know the middle stocking on this one looks black, but I was trying to capture the Wink of Stella.  With the Silver Foil "Noel", all of the rhinestones and the Wink of Stella this card really sparkles ... you're going to love it!


The second card just stunning, too!  This one is in Cherry Cobbler, Emerald Envy and Gold Glimmer Paper.


Here's a close-up of the stocking.  I just love the holly and mini jingle bell!
